I am currently employed on a grant funded by Coeliac UK investigating factors affecting psychosocial adjustment in coeliac disease. The project is a large scale survey of children and adults with coeliac disease in the UK, as well as parents and partners, and hopes to understand more about the experience of coeliac disease and the impact it has on families. The project is looking at a range of factors such as quality of life, coping skills, illness representations, self efficacy and emotional wellbeing. It will explore whether differences in how people view and understand their coeliac disease lead to differences in their wellbeing. It is hoped that the results will increase our understanding about why coeliac disease is more difficult for some people to manage and less difficult for others and therefore help us to provide better support.
My previous research has been in the field of intellectual disability, challenging behaviour, behavioural phenotypes of genetic syndromes associated with intellectual disability, sleep problems in individuals with intellectual disabilities and Applied Behavior Analytic methods for assessing challenging behaviour. I still maintain an interest in intellectual disabilities and am a committee member for the Cri du Chat syndrome support group.
