About
My research expertise lies in the two fields of Shakespeare and the nineteenth century.
My PhD thesis focused upon the history plays of Shakespeare, analysing the performance history of the cycle on the English stage and investigating each play's capacity for individual presentation.
Since completing my PhD, I have been doing various research relating to Charles Dickens, having previously studied under Malcolm Andrews at Kent University. In particular I have research interests in Dickens and travel and locations, and Dickens and the theatre. I am currently undertaking a comparative study of Dickens' work and early science fiction.
In addition, I am currently researching the nineteenth-century Irish writer Fitz-James O'Brien, a neglected author, early pioneer in science fiction, and all-round cad and bounder.
